You or your registered tax agent can enrol with the tax office (ATO) for the JobKeeper payment using the Business Portal and authenticate with myGovID from 20th April.

You must do this by end of May (previously end of April) to claim JobKeeper payments for April

8 Steps to get ready…

Step 1: Check you are an Eligible Employer

Step 2: Check your Employees are eligible

Step 3: Notify your employees that you will be nominating them for JobKeeper use the form below

Step 4: Keep the employee nomination forms on file (to be returned by the employee to you before end of April)

Step 5: Pay at least $1,500 to each eligible employee per JobKeeper fortnight

For the first two fortnights (30 March – 12 April, 13 April – 26 April), the ATO will accept minimum $1,500 payment for each fortnight has been paid by you even if it has been paid late, provided it is paid by the end of April.

(This means that you can make two fortnightly payments of at least $1,500 per fortnight before the end of April, or a combined payment of at least $3,000 before the end of April.)

Note: Employees cannot receive the JobKeeper payment from more than one employer.

Step 6: Check if you are an eligible business participant (sole trader, director, beneficiary) – working in the business & not being paid a salary

Step 7: Register your employees via your online payroll system eg Xero by logging into pay employees & following the prompts

Step 8: Enrol for JobKeeper from 20 April using the Business Portal and authenticate with myGovID

Claim JobKeeper Payment ~ expected from 4 May

The ATO have confirmed that from 4th May you or a registered tax agent can apply to claim the JobKeeper payment

Steps to get ready for claiming…

Step 1: Apply for JobKeeper payment in the ATO business portal (see steps above)

Step 2: Pay a minimum $1,500 to each eligible employee per JobKeeper fortnight (before tax)

Step 3: Identify your eligible employees in the application form by

Single Touch Payroll setup – select employee details that are prefilled from your STP pay reports

OR

Manually enter employee details in ATO online services or the Business Portal

OR

Use a registered tax agent who will submit a report on your behalf through online services for agents

Ongoing: Monthly reporting

Before 5th of each month – JobKeeper Declaration report will need to be completed which includes

  1. Reconfirm reported eligible employees or any changes in employees
  2. You will need to provide some information as to your current and projected turnover (You do not need to retest your reported fall in turnover)
